Scottish giants Celtic FC will welcome their Italian counterparts, Roma, when the UEFA Europa League resumes this week in matchday six of the league phase. With three rounds left to play to conclude this stage, the race for the knockouts is heating up. Read on to find our preview and two predictions of this match.
Roma come into this game sitting in 15th place in the standings and with a two-point cushion on their hosts, who are down in 21st place. This is the first-ever meeting between these two storied clubs, and this should add to the intensity of this fixture.
Though they have hit a snag in recent outings, Roma are heavily favored by bookmakers to come out on top here. Both sides fell to defeats this weekend and will be here looking to bounce back. Hosts Celtic have a new manager in Wilfried Nancy and will hope to hand him a first win as manager.

Celtic - Roma: Form Analysis
Celtic have had a topsy-turvy season so far in Europe’s second-tier club competition. The Scottish giants have won twice and lost another two fixtures.
This inconsistency has them looking over their shoulder in the race to qualify for the knockout rounds. The Hoops, who are just a point safe from the teams outside the knockout places, have accumulated seven points.
They defeated Feyenoord 3-1 away from home last time out in the competition. That win came under club legend Martin O’Neill, whose interim role as manager ended last week.
New head coach Wilfried Nancy had a disappointing start to his spell as the Bhoys suffered a 2-1 loss at home to Hearts. The defeat snapped a five-game winning streak.
Four of Celtic’s last five matches against Italian sides ended in defeat.
Roma are also coming off a domestic league loss, their second in succession. Gian Piero Gasperini’s men are seeing an alarming dip in form, which they will be keen to arrest.
The Giallorossi, who have failed to score in this negative spell, were defeated by Cagliari by a solitary goal last weekend. As a result, they have fallen four points behind in the race for the Serie A title.
Roma had lost just once in seven outings before these two setbacks and was on a four-game winning run. The Wolves, who have won three times in the Europa League, are tied with five other teams on nine points. Two of Roma’s victories have come on the road, with one of those successes being against Celtic’s Old Firm rivals, Rangers. The Italian giants defeated FC Midtjylland 2-1 last time out in the competition.

Celtic & Roma Squad Analysis
Reo Hatate and Benjamin Nygren have scored twice each for Celtic in the Europa League. The hosts will need the two to be firing on all cylinders if they are to strengthen their knockout chances.
In other news, Celtic will continue to be without some key players due to injury. Marcelo Saracchi missed the loss to Hearts with a hamstring issue that will still keep him sidelined.
Cameron-Carter Vickers and Alistair Johnston remain long-term absentees.
Daizen Maeda's four of six goals this season at Celtic opened the scoring
Roma also have injury concerns of their own. Artem Dovbyk, who netted 17 goals for the Italians last term, has been out for a month with a thigh injury.
Brazilian winger Wesley has also been sidelined in recent weeks and is doubtful for game time in Glasgow. Good news for the visitors is that the rest of the squad remains healthy, with no new injuries being reported.
Paulo Dybala, Stephan El Shaarawy, Evan Ferguson, and Matias Soule are all available.

Our Celtic vs Roma Prediction
Our prediction for Celtic v Roma is that Roma wins. Though they are going through a dip in form, having lost back-to-back games, Roma are our best bet to win here. The Italian giants haven’t lost three consecutive games this season.
The only other times in which they lost successive matches, they responded in the third game with a victory. Roma have also won both times when they have been away from home in this season’s Europa League group phase. Celtic’s recent managerial change had a negative effect on their most recent fixture. It could take longer for the new man in charge to implement his philosophy.
