Zimbabwe and Ethiopia are out of contention for places in the final stage of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Africa. Zimbabwe plays host to Ethiopia, hoping for a first win as Group G action comes to an end. The hosts have one point so far and are bottom of the group while Ethiopia have four points in third place. Zimbabwe have no win in their last 10 matches; they’ve lost seven of them, and conceded two or more in five of 10. They’ve also failed to score in seven of their last 10 matches and in the five matches in this group, they have just one goal. At home, they have no win in six straight games, and their only win at home in World Cup qualifiers was against Somalia. In the first meeting, they lost 1-0 to Ethiopia and this is their last chance to register a win in this group.

Ethiopia, just like Zimbabwe, haven’t garnered enough points to see them contest for top spot going to the final round of matches. The best they can use this game for is to prepare for the 2021 AFCON in January. They are coming from a 1-1 draw with Ghana at home, which should count as an impressive effort but they are winless in the last three matches. The last time Ethiopia emerged victorious was against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa; they have three losses in five matches and have failed to score in two of the five. They have one clean sheet in five matches and away from home in World Cup qualification, Ethiopia have no win in the last six.
