Rwanda welcomes Senegal to the Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade for this AFCON 2023 qualifier. The home team got off to a 1-1 draw against Mozambique in their opening round match while the defending champions won 3-1 against Benin. Rwanda are not in the best of form and had a dismal World Cup qualifying tournament that saw them finish last in their group with just one point and failed to win any of their six matches. Since the qualifiers they have had a mixed bag of results with a win and a loss to go with the draw in the last match. Rwanda have only won two of their last nine matches across all competitions. Their home form has not been much better with just a lone victory in their last five matches. Rwanda have played Senegal twice before and lost 2-0 on both occasions.

Senegal are going through a golden run that has seen them lift the AFCON title just four months ago and then they proceeded to beat Egypt to clinch their place in the World Cup 2022. They have only lost once in their last 17 matches across all competitions. The Sadio Mane inspired team are among the best teams in Africa and will fancy their chances against Rwanda, having beaten them twice previously without conceding a goal. Senegal lost their last away game to Egypt but were unbeaten in the seven away matches prior to this.
