Rennes are pushing for a place in the Champions League next season and will be looking to close in on second placed Marseille when they play host to Saint-Etienne in their next Ligue 1 game. Rennes are third with 59 points, while Saint-Etienne are 18th on 31 points. In their penultimate game of the season, Rennes will face second placed Marseille who at the moment are six points ahead, and they will want to get to that game on good momentum. Rennes recovered from two straight losses with a 5-0 win over Lorient in their last game and as they face another struggling side they’ll look to carry on. The win over Lorient handed them a first clean sheet in five matches, while for the fourth straight game, their matches produced over 2.5 goals. At home, they have four wins in the last five matches, and have scored two or more goals in each of those five games.

Saint-Etienne are just two points below the safe zone; they are currently in the relegation playoff spot and will want to rise away, especially since the 19th placed Bordeaux are just four points behind. The revival that saw Saint-Etienne collect four points from matches against Brest and Bordeaux was short-lived as they suffered a 4-1 loss to Monaco in their last game. Now they face another top two contender here. The biggest issue for Saint-Etienne has been the defence; they’ve conceded 17 goals in their last five matches. In three of the five games they’ve let in at least four goals and they have just one win in those five matches. Saint-Etienne have however shown some good glimpses in attack, scoring in all their last five matches, and managing two or more goals in four of the five. It follows that each of their last five matches has produced over 2.5 goals and both teams have also scored.
