Newcastle vs Chelsea Prediction & Betting Tips - Premier League

Chelsea travel to Newcastle to take on the Magpies in the Premier League this weekend. The Blues remain in fourth place in the English top flight while their opponents loiter in midtable obscurity, 13 points behind in 13th place. This game is a big test for Steve Bruce, the Newcastle manager fighting off a bad run of form after a bright opening half of the season. Prior to their midweek FA Cup replay against Rochdale, Newcastle had failed to win any of their last five matches in all competitions. Taking only one point from an available 12 has seen Newcastle slide from ninth place to the cusp of a relegation battle. Bruce hasn't been helped by the damage that the congested Christmas fixture list has caused to his team. They picked up a whopping nine injuries over the festive period. 

Frank Lampard will expect his Chelsea side to take advantage of this depleted Newcastle squad by picking up three points. They have a strong recent record against Newcastle, winning five of their last six meetings. Lampard is having a good first season with Chelsea and supporters are more tolerant of bad results because of his commitment to developing young players (not to mention the fact that he's a club legend who sets his team up in an attacking formation). Their end to 2019 was wobbly (losing five of their last ten matches of the calendar year) but they've made an unbeaten start (two wins from three matches) to 2020. We expect that to continue at St. James's Park with a Chelsea win.
