Manchester City are back in FA Cup action this week to defend their trophy in a fourth-round fixture against Fulham. The Cottagers make the trip to the Etihad in the hopes of pulling off what would be an upset for the ages. Fulham had three opportunities to beat City last season (twice in the league, once in the league cup) and failed to take any of them. City eased to comfortable clean-sheeted wins over their soon-to-be relegated opponents. Fulham have made a good fist of an instant bounce back from the second tier. They are currently third in the Championship table, losing only one of their last seven league matches. The timespan of that run includes a result not valid in that sequence: Fulham's third-round victory over Aston Villa. They have already tasted Premier League flesh once this season and will be hungry for more. However, the Etihad is a difficult restaurant to get a table at.

City have suffered their fair share of shocks this season, more than could have been anticipated back in August. There isn't any shame in being second in a division as competitive as the Premier League. There is, however, some shame attached to being 13 points behind leaders who have two games in hand. It's been a limp defence of their league title; catching Liverpool is virtually impossible at this stage. This makes the cup competitions even more important to City. They pulled off a domestic grand slam last season and will attempt to recoup their haul as best they can this time around. Back City to win with a clean sheet.
