Gabon will play Ghana in a crucial Group C match at the Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo. Gabon will be quietly confident knowing that a victory in this match will almost certainly see them through to the knockout stages. They scored an excellent 1-0 win in their first group match against Comoros and the victory was all the more impressive as they achieved it without Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. They were on a three match run without a win until they won their last match. Gabon had mixed fortunes in their World Cup qualifying group winning two matches and losing three with one draw. They eventually finished second in their group and failed to qualify for Qatar. In five previous meeting with Ghana they have only won once.

Ghana lost their opening group match against one of the tournament favourites Morocco. They had their opportunities in front of goal but could not convert their chances. They know only a win will keep their hopes alive in the tournament and they will once again look to the Ayew brothers to provide that spark in attack. They will be concerned that they have not scored in their last two matches and have only scored seven goals in their last ten matches with three of the goals coming in one match. Ghana were on a four game unbeaten run during the World Cup qualifying that saw them book their ticket to Qatar but have suffered two losses since then.
