El Salvador’s race for a ticket to the 2022 World Cup is over even as they prepare to host Costa Rica on Match Day 12 of the qualifiers. El Salvador have so far managed 10 points and are sixth in the standings while Costa Rica are fourth with 19 points. Ahead of this game, El Salvador drew 1-1 with Jamaica, a result that officially confirmed them out of contention for Qatar 2022. This game will be a formality for them and they head into it with just one win in five. They’ve lost three times in the five matches and in this round they have managed just two wins. El Salvador have failed to score in three of their last five matches and each of their last six matches has produced under 2.5 goals. With a run of six winless matches at home they are clearly the underdogs here. 

This game means everything to Costa Rica. After their win over Canada in their last game, their qualification chances are well in their hands and they have all to play for, hoping to rise past the playoff spot. The team in fifth, Panama, is just a point behind and Costa Rica should be able to bank on their recent form to drive them in this game. They are unbeaten in the last five matches, winning four and drawing one. They haven’t scored a lot in recent matches, their last four games producing under 2.5 goals. The same has been the scenario in six of their last seven away matches - producing under 2.5 goals. They are however unbeaten in their last nine matches against El Salvador, and will be hoping to avoid any jitters here.
