Derby County are out of the League Cup after falling 2-1 to Sheffield United and now have all the time to focus on their Championship campaign. They will be hosting Nottingham Forest in their next league game, the two sides having had contrasting fortunes so far. Derby are 14th on five points and Nottingham bottom without a point. The hosts are winless in the last two matches and facing a side winless in the league so far should give them the confidence they can end the bad run. Derby aren’t doing too well either, with one win in the last six competitive matches and scoring more than a goal in just one match in that run. A low finish, just one point above relegation last season should be enough to push Derby to eye a better season. They go to this game with one win in their last 11 matches in the Championship; in that run, they have six losses and just two clean sheets. In matches against Nottingham, Derby are winless in eight, but their last three meetings have all ended in draws.

Nottingham go to this game on four straight losses and they have no clean sheet in the last five matches. They’ve failed to score in the last two games and four of their last five have produced over 2.5 goals. This is not an opponent they’ve had a lot of trouble facing but in their current form, the odds are stacked against them. Nottingham are coming from a 4-0 win at the hands of Premier League side, Wolves in the League Cup. That was the third of four matches in which they’ve conceded two or more goals. Last season they finished 17th in the league standings, eight points better than Derby and they will be eying a higher finish.
