Derby County vs Northampton Town Prediction & Betting Tips - FA Cup
by Steve Ashfield | in FA Cup Prediction
There's a huge carrot dangling in front of both Derby County and Northampton Town. The winner of this FA Cup fourth round replay will host Manchester United in the next round. That would be massive for League Two Northampton Town but emotional for Derby's new recruit Wayne Rooney. The possiblity of the player/coach lining up against his former club will make the headlines and it's something that looks like happening. Derby had a disastrous November and December losing five league games and sinking into the bottom half of the Championship. Since Christmas, that form has been turned around with just one loss in nine league and cup games (an away loss at Luton Town). They won their latest game 4-0 at home to Stoke City with Rooney netting for the second game in a row. They are 13th in the Championship but ten points behind the final promotion play-off place, so it's unlikely Rooney will be back in the Premier League next season. That's becuse of their away record with just one league win all season, compared to nine at home.
Northampton Town will be looking to get a chance to take on United again in the FA Cup after famously losing to them 8-2 at home exactly 50 years ago with George Best scoring six of them. The Cobblers are currently fifth in League Two and only a couple of points away from the automatic promotion places. It's an improvement after recent seasons that have seen them dipping down towards the bottom of the table. They are undefeated in their last nine league and cup games with no goals conceded in the last three. That includes the home goalless draw with Derby that led to this replay. Away form for Northampton has seen them unbeaten in four Seven goals have been scored in two away FA Cup ties this season but Derby are a bit tougher than Chippenham Town and Burton Albion. Go for Derby to win this tie and be ahead at both half and full time.

Our Derby County vs Northampton Town Prediction
Derby County are in top form at present, though it might be too late to get them in the play-offs. They and Wayne Rooney of course would love a home tie against Manchester United. County have excellent home form and will make life tough for their League Two visitors. Derby can be backed to win this game and be leading at both half and full time.
