Cardiff City started their season with a draw in the Championship and will hope to go one better when hosting League Two side Sutton United in the League Cup. A goal from Marlon Pack set Cardiff on track for a winning start to the season but Toby Sibbick levelled for Barnsley to see the sides share spoils. Taking on a side two leagues lower, they will feel it is an opportunity to get an opening win and they should be good enough for it, having only lost to a stronger Southampton in the last five matches. In the Southampton game, that 4-0 loss was the only of their last five matches where they failed to score and the second time in five that they conceded two or more. They have scored twice in three of the five matches but they have just one clean sheet and three of their last five matches have produced over 2.5 goals.

Sutton United on their part, had a losing start to their season, falling 2-1 away to Forest Green Rovers. They were undone by a stoppage time Ebou Adams goal when they thought they’d settle for a draw. That was their third loss in four matches and they also have no clean sheet in that period. Each of their last five matches has produced over 2.5 goals and in their last four matches, both sides have scored. They are just promoted to League Two and are finding things a bit tough already; that meter will go up a notch when they face this Championship side. Their away run has also not been very impressive of late, packing up three losses in the last four matches and conceding at least two goals in each of those defeats.
