Royal AM have the upper hand in the race for second place and will be looking to return to second spot when they play host to the champions, Mamelodi Sundowns. Going into this game in third place, Royal AM have a game in hand and 46 points while Sundowns, on 62 points, have already been confirmed champions. In the two meetings between these two sides this season, Sundowns have won all but both teams have scored. Their most recent meeting was at the end of April with Sundowns winning 2-1 in the cup semis. That was one of Royal AM’s last five matches, which they haven’t won any. In that run of five matches, they’ve lost two, failed to score in two, and on two occasions conceded twice. Meanwhile the 2-2 draw with Golden Arrows in their last game is the only time in the last five that they’ve hit more than a goal.

Sundowns have nothing more to play for in the league but they have a cup final ahead, against Marumo Gallants. It will mean a number of key players are rested here. The champions are coming from a 3-0 loss at the hands of Stellenbosch, their biggest defeat in the league in two years. It was also the second time they failed to score in the last five league matches but they have three clean sheets in their last five matches. Going into this game, Sundowns have two wins in five league games and they won’t be pressured here, having already bagged the title. Their only loss in the last six away league matches was against Maritzburg United but they have just four wins in 10 on the road.
